- 01 - 2021-08-12 Waves crash into the jetty at Port Angeles, Washington. The sound of the large cobbles rolling with the waves cannot be described, at least, not by me.
- 02 - 2021-08-13 Ferns and moss-covered big leaf maples typify the Hoh Rainforest. Just magical.
- 03 - 2021-08-14 A Roosevelt elk bull grazes along the trail in the Hoh Rainforest. A small herd of cows and young were just around the next bend of the trail as I headed upriver.
- 04 - 2021-08-15 A (young lady) hiker descends the cable ladder 100' down into the avalanche chute near Glacier Meadows. The ladder is cheaper than trying to rebuild the trail every spring. This was fun with a heavy pack... even more so climbing up on the way out... but we got 'er done.
- 05 - 2021-08-15 The Moon rises over Blue Glacier from the terminal moraine. I hiked up here in the evening after reaching the base camp at Glacier Meadows, to see what I would be getting into the following morning.
- 06 - 2021-08-16 Blue Glacier, about a mile wide, flowing from the peaks of Mount Olympus; from the Lateral Moraine trail
- 07 - 2021-08-16 Many small glaciers and ice flows descend from the peaks of Mount Olympus to form Blue Glacier. This was as far as I dared go, stopping for a quick lunch on the ice, in the sunshine, before heading back down.
- 08 - 2021-08-16 Clouds moved in quickly, enveloping the ridge, as I climbed back up to the Lateral Moraine.
- 09 - 2021-08-18 Looking a bit shaggy after 5 days on the trail.
- 10 - 2021-08-23 Looking up the coast toward Toleak Point. I hiked six rugged miles down the coast to reach this beach, one of the most remote and scenic in Olympic National Park. For five days, I listened to the surf crash into the rocks of the Quillayute Needles as the tides rose and fell. There were many sea otters in the area, including a female and two pups crossing the beach near my tent every morning to reach the nearby creek for a drink.
- 11 - 2021-08-23 Low tide at sunset among the rocks at Toleak Point, Olympic NP. These tidal pools were full of life! I had to walk very slowly, picking my way so as not to step on any critters - snails, hermit crabs, fish, mollusks, starfish, anenomes, and all kinds of weird shit I couldn't identify.

- 20 - 2021-09-14 Ascending Mount McGloughlin, at about 8,100' elevation... with 1,400' more to go.
- 21 - 2021-09-14 Looking east from near the top of Mount McGloughlin: Pelican Butte stands behind Fourmile Lake on the left; Upper Klamath Lake in the center, about 18 miles distant; Mount Harriman on the far right. The 5 1/2 mile Mount McGloughlin Trail begins down in the forest far below, near the right edge of the photo, and climbs 3,900' up the jagged ridge in the lower right.
- 22 - 2021-09-14 Looking south from Mount McGloughlin: Brown Mountain and Fish Lake lie in the foreground as Mount Shasta - over seventy miles away - rises above the smoke.
- 23 - 2021-09-14 Looking north from Mount McGloughlin: Mount Bailey rises in front of Diamond Peak to the left; the steep, jagged peak near the center is Mount Thielsen (9,182'), fifty miles away; the peaks to the right, including Mount Scott (8,938'), enclose Crater Lake, 36 miles away.
